What is Degree Engineering?
Degree Engineering is a 4-year undergraduate program (BE / BTech) approved by AICTE and affiliated with recognized universities. It focuses on core engineering concepts and theory, problem-solving and analytical thinking, practical labs and projects, and professional and industry-oriented skills.
Who can take admission in Degree Engineering?
Students can enter Degree Engineering through two main pathways. The first pathway is after 12th (HSC – Science Stream), where students must complete 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). Admission is through entrance exams such as JEE Main or State CET, and seats are allotted via centralized counseling. The second pathway is after Diploma Engineering through lateral entry. Diploma holders from MSBTE or equivalent boards can take direct second-year admission. Admission in this case is based on diploma marks and state counseling, and JEE is not required for diploma students.
What entrance exams are required?
Students can take admission through JEE Main, which is a national-level exam, or through State CET, which is conducted for state quota colleges. Diploma students generally do not need to appear for JEE and are admitted through lateral entry counseling.
What is the duration of Degree Engineering?
Students who join after 12th (HSC) complete Degree Engineering in 4 years, which consists of 8 semesters. Students who join after completing Diploma Engineering enter directly into the second year and complete the course in 3 years, which consists of 6 semesters.
How many seats are reserved for diploma students?
As per AICTE and state government norms, engineering colleges reserve a specific percentage of seats for diploma holders under the lateral entry quota. The exact percentage depends on state rules and college approval.
